Fall Cake Flavors:
Pumpkin, Apple, Spice & Carrot

The warm-spice side of the flavor menu is what people ask about from September through Thanksgiving. Here’s what’s on it, what to pair it with, and what else comes out when the leaves turn.

Every flavor on the menu is available year-round, but a handful of them only really make sense once the mornings get cold. In the Berkshires that’s right about now. If you’re planning a fall birthday, a harvest-themed shower, or a Thanksgiving table, these are the flavors to start from.

The fall five

Of the 14 scratch-made cake flavors, five belong to autumn:

  • Pumpkin — the obvious one, and the most requested. Moist, spiced, and not overly sweet on its own, which is why it takes a rich frosting so well.
  • Apple — real apple in the batter, closer to an apple cake than an apple-flavored cake. Pairs with anything caramel.
  • Spice Cake — cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove without the pumpkin. The right call for people who want “fall” without a specific fruit.
  • Carrot — a year-round favorite that peaks in the fall. Classic with cream cheese; unexpectedly great with honey.
  • Banana Bread — not strictly seasonal, but it sits naturally next to the others and it’s the base for one of the most-loved cinnamon buns on the menu.

Frostings that belong with them

Fourteen frostings are on the menu, and the fall flavors have clear favorites:

  • Cream Cheese — the default for pumpkin and carrot, and hard to beat.
  • Caramel (buttercream or cream cheese) — the best partner for apple and spice cake. Add a caramel drizzle and toffee bits if you want it to feel like dessert.
  • Honey — lighter than cream cheese; lovely on carrot or spice cake for an adult crowd.
  • Toasted Marshmallow — on pumpkin or spice cake with graham cracker crumbs, this is a s’mores cake that happens to be fall-flavored.
  • Cookie Butter — the sleeper pick. Cookie butter frosting on spice cake or banana bread is the combination people photograph.
  • Coffee — with pumpkin, it’s a pumpkin spice latte in cake form.

Can’t decide? A two-tier cake can carry two flavors — pumpkin with cream cheese on one tier, apple with caramel on the other. More on mixing flavors across tiers →

Beyond cake

Fall is also when the rest of the seasonal menu comes out:

  • Seasonal specialty cupcakes for Halloween and Thanksgiving, announced on Facebook and Instagram as they rotate.
  • Seasonal donuts at $22 per dozen when they’re on.
  • Cinnamon buns in apple, maple bacon, and banana bread — $6 each or $32 per half-dozen — which are the right thing to have in the house on a cold Sunday morning.
  • Frozen custard in Apple Cobbler and Peach Cobbler, $14 per pint, while the flavors rotate through.
  • Thanksgiving platters. Past years’ platters have included sweet potato pie bars, pumpkin coffee cake cookies, brown butter apple blondies, pecan pie bars, and apple crisp. This year’s lineup is announced in early November — the email list in the footer is the easiest way to catch it.

Fall birthdays and showers

Pumpkin and spice cake are adult-birthday flavors more than kid flavors — kids nearly always pick funfetti or chocolate. For a harvest-themed baby shower, carrot cake cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and a sunflower or pumpkin design photograph beautifully and travel well. Shower dessert ideas →

If someone at the table is gluten-free, pumpkin and carrot are both on the gluten-free flavor list, available on request for an additional charge.

When to order

Lead times don’t change with the season, but the calendar does fill. Cupcakes, cookies, cinnamon buns, and donuts need 24–48 hours. A custom cake needs about a week. For anything on Thanksgiving week, reach out by early November — the holiday ordering timeline explains which days go first.
