Gluten-Free Cakes:
What to Know

Gluten-free flavors are available on request โ€” and there's an important honesty piece about cross-contact that anyone with celiac disease should read before ordering from any home bakery.

Requests for gluten-free cake have gone from occasional to routine, usually for one guest at a party who would otherwise get nothing. It's worth doing properly, and it's worth being straight about the limits.

The flavors

Ten cake flavors are available gluten-free on request:

  • Chocolate
  • Vanilla
  • Lemon Raspberry
  • Lemon Blueberry
  • Cookies and Cream
  • Red Velvet
  • Carrot Cake
  • Pumpkin
  • Chocolate Peanut Butter
  • Strawberry Crunch

Gluten-free versions carry an additional charge, because the ingredients cost more and the process is separate. That gets quoted with your order, not sprung on you afterward.

The honest part: cross-contact

Everything is baked in a single licensed home kitchen that also handles wheat, eggs, dairy, soy, tree nuts, and peanuts. Care is taken with gluten-free orders, but this is not a dedicated gluten-free facility, and it would be wrong to claim otherwise.

What that means in practice: a gluten-free cake here is well suited to guests avoiding gluten by preference, or with a mild sensitivity. If someone at your event has celiac disease or a severe wheat allergy, please say so directly when you order so you can get a straight answer about whether it's appropriate for them โ€” rather than a cake that turns out not to be safe.

Any baker who tells you a shared kitchen is guaranteed safe for celiac is either not thinking carefully or not being straight with you. The right move is to ask, get a real answer, and decide from there.

How gluten-free cake is different

Gluten is what gives cake its stretch and structure, so gluten-free cakes behave differently. Well-made ones are tender and completely satisfying, but they tend to be a little more delicate and a little more crumbly, particularly when cold. Serving them closer to room temperature helps a lot.

They also don't hold up to elaborate structural work the way a standard cake does, which is worth knowing if you're picturing a heavily sculpted design.

What to tell your baker

  • Whether it's a preference or a medical need โ€” these lead to genuinely different conversations.
  • How many guests need the gluten-free option. Sometimes a small separate cake for one or two people is a better answer than making the whole cake GF.
  • Any other allergies in the group, at the same time.

A note on the rest of the menu

The gluten-free options above are cake flavors. Cupcakes, cookies, brownies, and the rest of the menu are made with wheat, so ask before assuming a GF version exists for a particular item.
